And a Year Later!

Monday, October 4, 2010
Okay, so it took me a year to get around to knitting this hat, what can I say? I was on fire in September though, and finished a tonne of little projects (11 to be exact) as a part of Single Skein September.  I finished this off at about 10:00pm on September 30, so it totally counts as a Single Skein project.

I know, it needs buttons.  My friend Kimberly sent me some a while back, and guess what, I lost them!  I will have to find a lot more now that I have a vest and and hat!

Here is the totally sweet set:

Apparently I have a thing for pompoms these days.  This one is very messy and I love that.

The hat is based on the Owl Baby Vest which I knit last October.  I just made up the pattern as I went along, adding a continuous owl cable around the whole hat.

I still have almost a whole skein of Scheepjeswol Bamboo left over from this project.  Both the vest and the hat used about one skein.  Hmmmm, I wonder what I will do with the leftovers?

Single Skein September: Wrap Up

Friday, October 1, 2010
Can you believe September is over already?  What do I have to show for it?  Ten FO's that's what!

Here we go (most recent first):

Knitted Duck Toy for my pup:

Little Owl from the new KnitSimple Holiday issue:

Single Skeins Baby Hat to match my Single Skeins Baby Vest:

Entrelac Zipper Case:

My first entrelac experience! This still needs to be made into zipper case, but the knitting is done!

Single Skein Prop Hat:

Little Zebra Mittens:

Pumpkin Hat:

Cell Phone Cozy:

I know, that's only 9.  I also did another pumpkin hat, and stupidly gave it away without photographing it!  Geeze.  Here is the project page with a rundown of the pattern I used.  It is a medley of several patterns out there.  I loved this hat!

I know a lot of this is a repeat from past posts, but I thought it would be fun to see everything in one place and bask in this sense of accomplishment.  Seriously, I'm pretty proud of myself!

Single Skein September: Single Skeins Baby Vest

Monday, September 27, 2010

I have finished up my Single Skeins Baby Vest.  I love it!  I had a lot of yarn left over in both the blue and the brown so I am currently working on a matching hat.  I'll post the whole set soon enough.

I might add some cute buttons to the shoulder, but right now it is closed with snaps, so the buttons would be purely decorative.

The pattern is the Cabled Baby Vest by Whitney Van Nes of the Purl Bee.  It's free on the Purl Bee blog.

I liked the pattern a lot, although I wish it was available in PDF form.  I copied it into word to print and it took up around 30 pages.  I got rid of some photos and changed the formatting and it still took around 20 pages.  That's a lot of pages for a tiny baby vest.

I also felt like the vest could be longer.  I added one extra cable as it was, but easily could have added more.  Oh well, it was meant to be a tiny size and it is!

This is my fifth Single Skein September project.  I have another to show you (tomorrow) and will definitely finish the matching hat before the month is out.  It feels like it has been a very productive knitting month for me.

My project page is here.

Enjoy a few more pics!

Single Skein September: Single Skein Prop Hat

Thursday, September 23, 2010
I promised my photographer friend this hat such a long time ago!  I haven't found time to work on it until now.  It was a perfect single skein project.  Since the yarn was held double, it actually took two skeins, but, I'm counting it anyways!

My friend asked for a hat like this (sorry, I have no idea where this photo came from, it's not mine, hopefully no one will mind me posting it):

She wanted it for slightly older babies that are able to sit up.

I found the TEO Hat on Ravelry, and thought it looked pretty similar.  Of course, I'd have to extend the earflaps.

I CO in scrap yarn and knit the first 7 rows of each earflap that way.  I went on and knit the rest of the hat, decreasing in a round way, rather than pointed as in the pattern.

Once I had finished the hat, I could go back and knit the earflaps without worrying that I would run out of yarn.  I knit them to be about 8 inches I'd guess, decreasing fairly randomly, just eyeballing it.

I still had almost a whole skein left over and it's a good thing.  That is one big pompom!  I used the whole skein, plus some white Malabrigo Worsted, just for a little extra pop.

I don't have any good photos yet, but here it is anyways.

The rest of the details are available on my project page.

Single Skein September

Thursday, September 16, 2010
Hi Everyone,

Can you believe it's halfway through September already?  Where does the time go?

I have spent the past few months getting to know Jenny and Nicole from the Stash and Burn Podcast.  By getting to know them I mean, listening to their podcast, all 96 episodes, right from the beginning.  When I find something I like, this is what I tend to do, I start at the beginning and work my way through.  Stash and Burn has become one of my favourite knitting podcasts.

For the past several years, the podcast has hosted Single Skein Septemeber, in hopes of burning up those single skeins we all have kicking around.  I have already completed two small single skein projects this month, totally by coincidence.

Cell Phone Cozy

Gwen's Pumpkin

Today and I went through and found a few more from my ever-growing Queue.  I have no idea how it got so big!

My Single Skein project goals are as follows:

Little Zebra Mittens

Single Skein Prop Hat

Single Skein Diaper Cover Prop

Single Skeins Cabled Baby Vest

Are you taking part in Single Skein September?
