High HCG Levels in Early Pregnancy
HCG levels are what the basic home pregnancy tests test for. The HCG levels can first be noticed by taking a urine test about two weeks after conception. The HCG hormone is measured in milli-international units per milliliter (mIU/ml).
HCG stands for the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin, which is produced during pregnancy. The HCG hormone is sent into your blood stream soon after the baby implants into the lining of your uterus, about eight to twelve days after conception. HCG is made by cells which form the placenta.
Usually, HCG levels will double every 48 to 72 hours, until they reach their peak during your first eight to eleven weeks of pregnancy. Afterwards, the HCG levels will decline and level off.
Normal HCG levels vary widely between different women and in different pregnancies for the same individual. Consequently, you should not be paranoid about trying to figure out what your HCG levels exactly are. What you should be watching is how much your levels are rising every couple to three days. This is what doctors are mainly concerned about, and what could signify any abnormalities in your pregnancy.
High increases in HCG levels could mean several things, including molar pregnancy, choriocarcinoma of the uterus, ectopic pregnancy, twins (or more), Down’s syndrome of the fetus, or simply a miscalculation of when your pregnancy started. A molar pregnancy is an abnormality of the placenta, caused by a problem when the egg and sperm join together at fertilization. Molar pregnancies rarely involve a developing embryo.
Choriocarcinoma of the uterus is a malignant variant of molar pregnancy which metastasizes early by the blood route and is treated by chemotherapy.
An ectopic pregnancy is a condition where the embryo grows outside the uterus. Usually this is noticeable by HCG level testing your HCG levels have been high but they do not double from your last take level.

HCG Levels in Pregnancy
Human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG, is produced during pregnancy. It can be detected by a blood test around eight to eleven days past ovulation. HCG maintains the corpus luteum, which is responsible for progesterone production in early pregnancy. Progesterone helps to keep the lining of the uterus thick for a healthy pregnancy. If there is no hCG present in the woman’s body the lining of the uterus will begin to shed and a new menstrual cycle will begin.
What are normal beta hCG levels?
There is quite a range in what is considered a normal hCG level. In about 85 percent of pregnancies hCG levels will double every two to three days. Your doctor may check your beta hCG level more than once to see if it is rising appropriately. See Justmommies hCG doubling calculator.
Low hCG levels
Low hCG levels may indicate a miscalculated date of conception, an ectopic pregnancy, or a possible miscarriage. However, a perfectly healthy pregnancy may have low hCG levels.
High hCG levels
High hCG levels may indicate a miscalculated date of conception, a molar pregnancy, or a multiple pregnancy
What can interfere with hCG levels?
Some fertility drugs containing hCG may affect your hCG levels. Other than that, other medications including antibiotics and oral contraceptives will not affect your hCG level. If you are taking a fertility medication that would affect your hCG level your health care provider should discuss with you how this would affect your tests.

Beta hCG blood pregnancy test are shown in the table
The "normal" ranges for the Beta hCG blood pregnancy test are shown in the table below.
| Week from the Last Menstrual Period | Amount of HCG in mIU/ml |
| 3 | 5 -50 |
| 4 | 3 - 426 |
| 5 | 19 - 7,340 |
| 6 | 1,080 - 56,500 |
| 7 - 8 | 7,650 - 229,000 |
| 9 - 12 | 25,700 - 288,000 |
| 13 - 16 | 13,300 - 254,000 |
| 17 - 24 | 4,060 - 165,400 |
| 25 - 40 | 3,640 - 117,000 |
Because of the wide variation in values, the test is not useful in establishing the gestational age of a pregnancy.
Beta hCG levels should double approximately every 2 days for the first four weeks of pregnancy. As pregnancy progresses the doubling time increases. By 6 to 7 weeks gestation beta hCG levels may take as long as 3 1/2 days to double.
You can use the Beta hCG Doubling Time Calculator to calculate the doubling time of two beta hCG samples by entering the date of the blood test and the corresponding beta hCG value for that day. If the hCG level is declining the the half life of will be calculated.

Is it true if you pee or wash your vagina after sex you can prevent pregnancy?
Let's dissect this so that you understand why not.
You don't urinate from within your vagina, but rather from your urethra, a very small, barely visible opening on your vulva between your vaginal opening and your clitoris. To get a better idea of what I'm talking about, have a look at the first illustration here: Pink Parts - Female Sexual Anatomy.
During vaginal intercourse, if a partner ejaculates, that ejaculate is going into or around the vaginal opening, and then the sperm in that semen move up through the vagina into the cervix. Urine doesn't go anywhere near your cerix nor into your vagina, so it can't wash away semen. It also, for the record, can't wash away any viruses, bacteria or parasites when it comes to sexually transmitted infections.
In terms of washing, again, when we wash our genitals, we wash the outside: our mons, outer labia, inner labia, maybe right around our anuses. Even if you try and wash the inside or douche -- which is always a bad idea, and it can cause imbalances in the vagina which can lead to discomfort or infection -- water, soap or a douche solution isn't going into your cervix. Sperm swim fast. Even if you did an Olympic sprint to the bathroom after sex to try and wash out your vagina, you couldn't beat them to the punch.
The opening to the cervix (and you saw where that is if you read the whole of that article I linked you to: it's the neck of your uterus that juts into the very back of the vagina), is incredibly small. Part of why that is is to protect your reproductive organs. If that opening wasn't small, it'd be really easy for us to wind up with cervical or uterine infections that made us infertile and very ill. It's too small for water, but not too small for sperm, which are microscopically teeny-weeny. After ejaculation, they head through the vagina, through the cervix and into the uterus, not inside the vagina, seeking out or trying to fertilize an egg. Urine or water from washing can't get into your uterus.
For more information on how pregnancy happens, check this out: Where DID I Come From? A Refresher Course in Human Reproduction.
If you want to prevent pregnancy and have vaginal intercourse, then you need to use a reliable method of birth control that is highly effective. Condoms are a very easy method for anyone to find, afford and use and when used properly, are very effective. They also protect you from sexually transmitted infections. Other options are female barrier methods -- like a diaphragm, which blocks the entrance to the cervix -- or hormonal methods -- like the birth control pill, which changes your fertility cycle continuously so you don't release eggs to be fertilized, and so it's tougher for sperm to get to the cervix in the first place. You can talk to your doctor or healthcare provider about any of these methods, and figure out which is best for you.
And if you or your partner aren't ready to deal with any method of birth control? Then if you don't want to become pregnant, the only right choice is to abstain from sex until you both ARE ready.

Can you be pregnant with no symptoms
it is very very possible to not have any symptoms at all, I had my first baby when i was 17, I had some symptoms with her, but mostly kept them hidden from my parents, then I got married and we decided it would be cool to get pregnant on our honeymoon, well when we got back I took a test just for the fun of it and it was positive, way early right, nope went to the doctor and I was 5 months pregnant, I had my period all 5 months, no sickness no nothing, she is very healthy thank god, and so is my third child who I had absolutely no symptoms with either except I had missed my period
my results - 3 kids, 1st two = 14 months apart, 2nd - two 11 months apart..Thursday, June 17, 2010
Toileting Your Baby
Before I had number seven I read another book about it, and noticed that I could try putting him on the toilet as soon as he woke up, which is often a time that babies need to go. I read an article by another relaxed mother, who said she keeps diapers on her babies, but puts them on the toilet whenever they poop, saying the cue word at the same time. I determined to give it another try. When he was little it was just too much, although I did manage to catch a few poops, and say the cue words when I noticed him eliminating. At four months old I started holding him over the toilet when he woke up, and whenever I saw he was thinking about a poop. I had four successes the first day! He seemed to know that when I held him in that position he should try to eliminate, and would usually grunt and strain as soon as I held him over the toilet. Now, at 8 months, he goes on the toilet every morning, and during the day if I notice that he needs to go. It is not saving a whole lot of diapers, but I am hopeful that he will toilet train a lot earlier than my other babies (who were between 2 and 2 ½ years old).
The position I hold him in is with his back leaning against my body, with my hands around his thighs, so he is in a squatting position. From here I try to aim his elimination into the toilet. I plan on introducing the potty soon, but will keep him on the toilet also, as going in there helps to familiarise him with the place, and make him feel comfortable and normal about going there.

Can you get Pregnant if you have sex during your period?
Unfortunately, many women of all ages believe that if a Girl has sex during her period, she will not fall pregnant, that she isn't fertile and it just could not happen!
But even though this belief and rumour is well spread and very common, it is absolutely POSSIBLE for a girl to become pregnant when she is menstruating (bleeding).
There a number of reasons why this can happen:
Not all vaginal bleeding is the result of a menstrual period. Sometimes a girl will bleed from her Vagina at the actual time of ovulation - the time when the egg is released from one of the body's ovaries and then travels down the fallopian tube to the Uterus. And it is very common now for girls/women who are ovulating to experience some vaginal bleeding that can be unfortunately mistaken for a period.Sometimes ovulation can actually occur before the bleeding from a girl's/woman's period has stopped. Or it may occur within a few days after her period has finished. In both of these cases, having sex before the period has finished or just after it has finished, can result in pregnancy.
Having unprotected sex at any time including when you've got your period is incredibly risky. Along with the risk of becoming pregnant, there is also the risk of getting a sexually transmitted disease, such as Chlamydia, genital warts, or HIV (AIDS). The only surefire and safest way to prevent pregnancy and/or STD's is abstinence!
Now we would be rather unrealistic to expect this to be the case, so if you are going to take part in sexual relations with your partner, use a CONDOM! Or in the best case scenario - first of all, make sure you both get checked out by the Doctor so you have a clear bill of health. And then if all is clear, make sure you use some form of contraceptive or protection to stop you from receiving an unexpected surprise

Bleeding During Early Pregnancy
Girl worried about bleeding during early pregnancy Bleeding during early pregnancy is a lot more common than you might imagine - but that doesn't stop it from being worrying for the prospective mother-to-be. A quarter of all pregnant women may experience spotting in early pregnancy and more than 10% experience bleeding of some kind. So what could be causing it and what should you do?
First of all, stay calm and stay put. Don't rush about: bleeding during early pregnancy can be sufficiently serious to justify contacting your doctor or midwife right away if it's anything more than light spotting. Fresh blood or any bleeding accompanied by stomach pain or severe cramping should be investigated without delay. There are also some perfectly normal explanations but you need a health professional to decide for you.
Let's look first of all at the most common, less serious reasons for bleeding during early pregnancy. These include:
Implantation Bleeding.
This is caused, in the very early stages of pregnancy, by the egg implanting itself into the wall of the uterus. Because it occurs around the same time as you might have had your period, this makes it hard to distinguish between the two causes.
Hormonal or 'Breakthrough' Bleeding.
You might expect your pregnancy hormones to overwhelm your normal hormonal cycle but this doesn't always happen. Some women report bleeding during early pregnancy that strongly resembles having periods during pregnancy. It is actually now thought to be caused by the variation in background hormonal levels that just happen to be greater in some women than in others.
A Cervical Erosion
This is an area of softer tissue near the neck of the womb and it can sometimes bleed.
A Cervical Polyp
Just like the cerival erosion, a small polyp or benign lump can sometimes be the cause of bleeding or spotting in early pregnancy.
A Cervical Infection
Again, if it causes inflammation of the lining of the cervix, this may cause light bleeding or spotting. You would need to get this checked out and treated by your health professional.
More Serious Possible Causes of Bleeding During Early Pregnancy
Miscarriage
The term 'miscarriage' is used to describe the loss of a baby in the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. Sadly, miscarriage is an all-too-common occurrence and it's calculated that about 98% of miscarriages happen in the first 13 weeks of pregnancy. It's possible to lose the fetus before you even realise you're pregnant. In many cases, this may be nature's way of ensuring that only the healthy foetus survives, as we know that in the animal world as well as the human, imperfections are quite common. But it's also known that some women are more liable to miscarriage than others, for some physiological reason. It's in situations like these that immediate rest and professional care the moment you experience any bleeding during early pregnancy may prevent a miscarriage. If you are worried about miscarriage or want to find out more, wherever you are in the world, one of the best websites I know is a UK one and is run by the Miscarriage Association.
Placental Abruption
This occurs when the placenta begins to come away from the wall of the uterus. It may not always cause bleeding but it almost always causes pain, so whatever stage of your pregnancy you're at, if you experience sharp abdominal pains or severe cramping, call a doctor right away.
Ectopic Pregnancy
There is about a one in a hundred chance that a woman may have an ectopic or tubal pregnancy. This is when a fertilised egg implants itself outside the womb, in one of the fallopian tubes. As the fetus grows the mother experiences pain and bleeding. This is a very serious medical emergency, as if the tube ruptures, the resulting internal bleeding can kill the mother. Please do not, under any circumstances, try to ignore bleeding accompanied by severe pain, or any severe pain even on its own, during early pregnancy. Click here if you need to know more about ectopic pregnancy.
Placenta Praevia
In late pregnancy it can sometimes happen that the placenta is still lying low in the womb instead of having migrated upwards, as it should. In such a case, the baby's route down the birth canal is blocked by the placenta. Any bleeding late in pregnancy must be carefully checked out, using ultrasound and/or a pelvic examination, in order to make sure it's not placenta praevia. If it is, you will probably need to have your baby delivered by caesarian section.
These are the main reasons why you might experience bleeding in early pregnancy - and I have included some references to serious reasons not to ignore it in later pregnancy too, simply because they are so important to know about.
Finally, here is one possibly helpful tip which you may not pick up elsewhere but which my friend swears gave her a healthy baby after many miscarriages. She began spotting in early pregnancy yet again and her doctor, having told her to stay in bed, admitted that he was not hopeful of her keeping her pregnancy. A homeopathic practitioner happened to be visiting me and told me about Sabina 6, a homoeopathic preparation that might just save her pregnancy. With her doctor's blessing she took it faithfully, rested for 3 months - and now has a 100% healthy son. If you are one of those who are getting desperate to keep a pregnancy, it might just be worth finding out more.
