Sunday, December 2, 2007
Aschaffenburg, Germany - A 64-year-old woman has given birth to a girl in the Bavarian town of Aschaffenburg, making her one of the oldest mothers in Europe, doctors said Sunday. Both mother and child were reported in good health, following the delivery of the baby by caesarian section in a local clinic on Thursday.

The unnamed woman became pregnant as a result of in vitrio treatment abroad using a donated egg cell and the sperm of her husband.

It is against the law in Germany to donate egg cells for pregnancies.

It is the first child for the woman, who had a series of miscarriages and was unable to conceive naturally.

A 67-year-old Spanish woman became the world's oldest mother after she gave birth to twins in the northern city of Barcelona at the end December 2006.
