A few weeks ago my husband announced that he'd like me to wear more skirts. I thought about it for a few days and then returned to him, suggesting that I purchase some fabric to make the skirts I wanted, as opposed to spending hours and hours shopping for skirts.
The 50% off sale was on at Fabricland so off we went to choose some fabrics. I let him contribute a lot and choose fabrics he wanted me to wear. We also tried to branch out and choose colours and patterns I don't already normally wear. It was a lot of fun and I should get about 5 skirts from $50.
I choose all light weight cottons (not wanting to deal with stretchy stuff yet) and I have been working on my skirts ever since.
To date I have finished 2 3/4 skirts and have fabric for 3 more. So far I have used free patterns found online I also copied a skirt that I have hanging in my closet that I liked the shape of.
I'm hoping to post all my new skirts this week and possibly next week. It takes a little time to make them and get me photographed in them!
This skirt was super easy and I love the result. If I had more fabric, it could have been a little wider at the bottom, but as it is, it definitely works!
Total cost - Fabric + zipper = $4.00
PS. My favourite spot to find free sewing patterns is http://sewing.craftgossip.com/. You can do a search for pretty much anything. They post new things to sew all the time and they do the blog scouring so you can spend your time sewing instead!
